Gun Reform NOW

On Monday, December 16th, there was another school shooting. This one happened at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin. The shooter was a student at the school and was found dead at the scene. At least four people are dead, with five injured.

J.D. Vance on school shootings:

“I don’t like that this is a fact of life,” Vance said. “But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools. We’ve got to bolster security so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children they’re not able.” (Associated Press)

Donald Trump on school shootings:

“It’s just horrible, so surprising to see it here. But have to get over it, we have to move forward.” (NBC News)

When is enough going to be enough? When will we say school shootings are not a “fact of life” anywhere but in the United States? When are we going to recognize that telling parents to “get over it” when their children have just been shot and killed is cold-hearted, hateful, and simply wrong?

This is not the first school shooting in 2024, but I pray it’s the last. Why are the lives of students not enough to call for gun reform?

This is not the greatest country on Earth. We allow our children to be killed and say there’s nothing we can do about it. I’m so tired.
